Micromanagement: An honorable term.
Micromanagement is being a leader to employees, inspiring them by showing them exactly how the job is done. As CEO’s, we have a vision for what our company should be and we determine its direction on the road of life. If you had a specific place that you wanted to get to, would you hand the keys over to someone else, with only a vague description of the destination? Of course not! We drive that car for as long as we can, and when we must give up the driver’s seat, we make sure that our employees are on the same page.
Micromanagement is all about acquiring and sharing knowledge. I see what goes on in my company and how my employees work. I research and attain further knowledge and make an assessment to be sure that I’m getting the best results possible. I then take it to the next step by sharing my goals and expectations with my employees. I would never fly a plane with a blindfold on and I certainly wouldn’t run my company that way either. I have the vision of where I want my company to go and I have the tools to get it there. Micromanagement gets a bad rap, but it is less about control and more about knowledge. Take the blindfold off and get back in the driver’s seat.
Several years ago, I was called ‘America’s number one Turnaround Man’ by Fox News. I couldn’t have purchased such a title for any amount of money. Living up to those five words is a dedicated and honorable assignment every day. Goals are not attained through casual management but through dedicated individuals who understand intense management; a micromanager. An honorable term that is clearly misunderstood by those that refuse to align with it.
